Pizza is my all time favorite food! Maybe I say that about a lot of food (I love food) but pizza is actually my favorite food. It is so incredibly delicious that I crave it almost every day. Obviously I can’t order pizza every day though, I would end up way over my goal weight. Oftentimes the pizza with tons of oil and cheese makes me feel not so great, so I wouldn’t want to feel like that all the time.

The perfect solution is this homemade thin crust pizza recipe. I am able to make a large batch of this dough and separate it into pizza-sized balls. Then when I am ready for pizza, I can just take one out, roll it, add my toppings and bake. This way I can control exactly what goes into my pizza, making it easier to stay on top of nutrition information.

This recipe is incredibly easy. It’s a great thing to have ready in the fridge for pizza night with your friends, especially if there is wine involved. That way the only thing tipsy people will have to handle is adding the toppings and putting it in the oven.

While this thin crust pizza is easy to make, it is equally delicious. It has a chewy center like a true NY pie and the edges get nice and crispy in the oven. This pizza dough can also be used for things like calzones, flatbreads and just a nice thin bread to add jelly or avocado to.

Let’s get into the recipe:

the crispy crust

This thin crust recipe only requires 5 ingredients. One being water. These are the same ingredients that serve as a foundation for just about all breads. Yeast, sugar, salt, flour, water. With these five things, you can make a great meal super easily.

When forming a dough. The first step is to dissolve the sugar in warm water. Then, add the yeast. The sugar serves as food for the yeast. As the yeast consume the sugar, they excrete carbon dioxide gas a waste. This gas shows up as bubbles in the water and later in the bread, giving it a fluffy texture.

After the yeast begins forming bubbles in the water and it looks foamy, it is time to add the combined salt and flour to the liquid mixture. It should be kneaded pretty well until it is stretchy and can form a pretty solid ball. From here that dough ball can be split into 4 or 5 smaller balls depending on the size you want your pizzas.

All thats left to do is add the delicious toppings !

toppings for my perfect pie

My perfect thin crust pizza has red sauce (my absolute favorite is don pepino’s), mozzarella, bacon bits, artichoke hearts, balsamic glaze and olive bruschetta. Sometimes I add a drizzle of truffle oil as well if I have some. Or a runny egg. Eggs are rich in protein any perfect thin crust pizza vitamins, making them ideal for any type of cuisine.

Eggs are good for more than just breakfast! Eggs have plenty of vitamin B2, D, A, E and iron. Vitamin B2 is essential for metabolism regulation. We need it to have regular appetite signals and proper breakdown of other nutrients. Vitamin D is great because it allows the body to absorb calcium, which you can get from other foods. Vitamin A is known for its relation to healthy eye sight. Finally, vitamin E is  important for tissue regeneration. Consuming vitamin E can improve scarring, and can help to make skin more elastic.

Iron is perhaps the most important nutrient found in eggs. Without iron, our bodies would not be able to get oxygen. Iron allows our red blood cells to bind to oxygen. This is why those who are anemic share symptoms of those with lung disease such as a low pulse oxygen level and pale skin. It is super important to make sure your iron levels are high enough.

White pizza is amazing too! A drizzle of olive oil, a thin layer of pesto and some mozzarella is all you need to make the perfect white pizza. What is your favorite type of pizza?

the recipe

Ingredients

Crust

  • 1/4 tsp white, granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 packet of yeast

servings

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Start by preheating your oven to 450 degrees Farenheit.

Step 2

In a large bowl, combine sugar and warm water.. Stir until sugar dissolves. Add yeast and let sit for about 10 minutes, until a foamy layer forms.

Step 3

In a separate bowl, combine flour and salt. When the yeast has made foam, add the salt and yeast mixture slowly to the water mixture, stirring occasionally. Once it looks like dough, transfer to a floured surface.

Step 4

On the floured surface, knead the dough until it is stretchy and can form a solid dough ball. If it is too sticky, add a little more flour.

Step 5

Divide the large dough ball into four equal small dough balls. Roll out your dough on a pan lined with parchment paper. A 12 inch pie is ideal but remember, bigger equals thinner.

Step 6

Finally, poke some holes all over your crust with a fork. Add any sauce and toppings that you would like and bake for 13-17 minutes or until the edges of the pizza are a golden brown.
