Dear readers,
I LOVE BERRIES. I mean look at them. They are easily the most beautiful fruits. Berries are nature’s candy and they are so good for you.
Berries are antioxidants and they are very low in sugar compares to other fruits. They come in a variety of flavors and colors and can be incorporated into almost any dish.
Raspberries
Raspberries are delicious. They come in four colors. White, golden, black and red. Most people are familiar with the traditional red color. But if you haven’t, be sure to try the white, black and golden ones.
White and golden raspberries have a flavor similar to the red ones, but they are a little more mild. They have less of a sweet flavor and some floral notes.
Black raspberries lean in the opposite direction. They have a bit of a stronger flavor. They are sweeter and more tart than red raspberries.
Raspberries are a great source of vitamin C, vitamin K, and manganese. Vitamins C plays a role in immune support, helps with memory and is necessary for proper absorption of iron. Vitamin K is great for blood clotting.
Blueberries
Blueberries are one of my favorite berries. They are so pretty and have such a wonderful flavor. I incorporate blueberries into as many meals as possible. From blueberry and brie open-faced sandwiches to blueberry milk.
Blueberries contain a powerful antioxidant called anthocyanin. This compound reduces your risk of heart disease. They also contain vitamins C and K and manganese, similar to raspberries.
Blackberries
Blackberries are one of the more tart berries. But they have an incredible sweet flavor when ripe and their dark color means that they are rich in nutrients.
These berries are one of the lowest in sugar and are a great source of fiber. Along with vitamins C and K, they also contain vitamin A, which helps with vision and cell growth.
Strawberries
Like raspberries, strawberries have color variations. White strawberries have a pineapple-like flavor and they have some lovely floral notes.
Strawberries have the lowest sugar content of all the berries, making them essential for heart health and blood sugar levels. They can also reduce inflammation and improve vascular function.
